Umpires, etc.
Umpires in High School ball here are horrendous. Strike zone...where is it? I'd love to say it depends on the day but it actually seems to change by the pitch. Balk? Holy cow...I've seen some really bad ones not called.
Some coaches in this state are pretty horrendous too. Especially a few I'm not willing to talk about.
Dictators that won't listen!

Officiating
I have to agree with the poor umpire comments. Timp is not the only victim though. Most teams get their share for sure. I believe that they need to do something drastic.
First of all an increase in pay is the first thing. I think alot of guys would be more willing to make the sacrifices it takes to do games if the pay made it worth their while, not just KINDA worth it to a few guys..... Also, you can require more in the way of training hours, certification, testing etc. when you pay better. I am constantly amazed when I go to a game and see guys guess. I expect it in super leagues, little leagues, adult leagues, not HS. On that same subject, have you seen how bad the zone is in a college game? It is sometimes worse!
It does make it tough when an outrageous call costs a team a game. That said, as a player you have to expect the worst. But a simple tag on a fly ball? You see it appealed, never works. Tough to swallow I'm sure.
Thoughts guys??

umpires
i totally agree. i am a pitcher in region 7, and i have had my fair share of minimized strike zones and calls not going in our team's favor, even when it was obvious. and it also seems to me that umpires favor some teams more than others, since i have repeatedly seen pitches thrown by myself being called balls when they were being called strikes while i was at the plate!
i am getting tired of this bull and we need to find umpires who do not collect money from opposing coaches after games for throwing the game.

Re: Lone Peak Timp Game..
I was at the game and Lone Peak got the worst of the officiating. They had a double that was clearly a fair ball called foul that ended up costing them at least one run and maybe more. They also had a balk called on there pitcher who clearly had step off the rubber that gave Timp a run on a wild pitch they would not have scored. So that one call didn't cost Timp the game, because without the poor calls against LP that run would not have even mattered. High school officiating in all sports is of low quality, and I just hope they can figure out a way to help get more qualified people to do it. As a parent I hate to see terrible officiating on any game.

lone peak vs. timpanogos
never like to blame officiating, but this one was a doozy. it was
so bad that i heard Nelson got a call from a Lone Peak parent saying how sorry they were for what happened. that was a classy thing to do.
even the LP coaches said the runner didn't leave early. that horrible call ended the game. I have to disagree that LP got more bad calls, but they got their share too.
it's a hard knock life for officials, at one time or another, somebody hates you....this game, EVERYBODY hated you.

correction
Correction I believe the LP Coaches said they didn't know if he left early or not, however they weren't going to argue the call. I kbow he was a step off the bag when the catch was made. The ump was right there waiting for the appeal, because he knew he left early, NO hesitation. Granted I hate to end a game that way, but it is what it is. A baserunning error. If it was a defensive error no one would be complaining. A win is a win. The ump made the right call.

You're a Nut alright!
BaseballNut. . .are you serious? You are saying you watched the play and you saw the runner leave third early? Not only are you wrong. . you're obviously fabricating the story! I KNOW three things:
1) That runner did not leave early.
2) There was not a play at the plate.
3) The Lone Peak Assistant Coach admitted "well we didn't think he'd call it but it was worth a try"--as in "we know he didn't leave early but if cheating is the only way we can win. . . . ."
What I would give for a video of that play to absolutely ROAST that umpire!

You are all crazy
Reading all of this post it seems to me that everyone knows someone who has said something about the call. LP coaches said he left early, Timp coaches said he didnt'. Last time I checked only 1 opinion mattered and that is the umpires. Yes I was at the game as a fan, and I can tell you that it was close enough that I couln't tell if the run left early or not. I heard from a friend of mine that 1 Timp coach said he thought he might have left a little early, but none of that really matters. The ump missed a huge fair/foul call in one innings that cost LP at least 1 run and maybe more, both parents/fans need to stop complaining and enjoy there teams. I heard the other game was just as exciting as the firts one, I hope both teams go on and have a good year. There are also other good teams in the vally that are fun to watch.

Let's talk on May 15th!
There will only be one of the two teams still playing!
